Meet Kalorama, Where Ivanka Trump, Jeff Bezos and the Obamas Will Be Neighbors By Melissa Allison on 13 Jan 2017
Georgetown is famous, but Kalorama has the privacy, security and spacious homes the D.C. elite crave.Rather than fly off to some distant location following the upcoming inauguration, as some former presidents have done, the Obamas will be headed just a few miles away. They’re trading the White House for a rental home in Kalorama, the same ritzy neighborhood where Ivanka Trump and her family have found a home, and where Amazon founder Jeff Bezos recently paid $23 million for the former Textile Museum. Bezos, who’s also the new owner of The Washington Post, will reportedly turn the massive space into a home.
Kalorama lacks the fame of its neighbor, Georgetown, but it’s rich in everything a former president or billionaire could want: Privacy, security and proximity to power.
“If you’re looking for an upper-end, luxury neighborhood close to D.C., that really is the closest one,” said Fred Kendrick, managing broker at TTR Sotheby’s International Realty.
